Extra Long Day Trip to Dresden

It took about two and a half hours to get to Dresden on Thursday, but it was worth it because we got to see some really cool buildings. The first thing we saw when we got there was the UFA Cinema Center by Coop Himmelbau, which is a really cool looking movie theatre. As crazy as some would say the outside is, the inside is even crazier. You can kind of tell when you look through the glass. They weren't really open when we were there, but we asked if we could take pictures and they said it was ok, so we got a quick little self tour of the inside. It's probaly really cool to see at night, and I wish we had the chance to see a movie there.

The German Military History Museum is by Daniel Libeskind, who you may rememer did the Jewish Museum in Berlin. I think the way he crossed new with old was pretty cool.

Mr. Caldwell really liked this building and wanted the best shot of it, and he did whatever it took to get the best shot.

They second half of the day we spent walking around the city and saw the New Synagouge, but it was closed.

The St. Benno Grammer School by G. Behnisch

We also went to the inner city and walked along the Elbe River, where we saw the Katholische Hofkirche, Saxon Parliment Building, International Congress center, and the Centrum Galerie. We got all this in, and then took a break because some people wanted to stop and eat. With 20 minutes until the train left, we got wrong directions twice and ran half the way to the train station, and still missed the train. So we got to stay in Dresden for another 2 hours before finally making it back to Berlin that night. Despite missing the train, going to Dresden was still a cool trip, just much longer than anticipated.
